Why don't more people move here?

It always surprises me to think only 44,000 people live in the Northwest Territories.

Thus, with a population of about 3,500 -- if we include travelling workers ---Inuvik is the 3rd biggest town in the whole territory.

Here's the list for 2001. (The numbers seem low, but it should give you an idea.)

Yellowknife
16,541
Hay River
3,510
Inuvik
2,894
Fort Smith
2,185
Behchoko
1,552
Fort Simpson
1,163
Tuktoyaktuk
930
Fort McPherson
761
Fort Providence
753
Norman Wells
666

That's a military crest for a Canadian forces boat called "Inuvik," so I guess they wanted to make it a little dramatic.

...there's enough jokes about the Canadian military holding spears, etc!
